Originally all of the Guardian Concert Band players were people who worked at Guardian Royal Insurance in Lytham, but now we have players from all sorts of jobs and professions including policemen, insurance advisers, civil servants, teachers, engineers and a few who have retired.
With the closure of Guardian Royal Insurance in Lytham the band were forced to relocate nearby at the Ansdell Institute, but have kept the name & its reputation. In March 2009 the band moved again - this time to the Park Street Methodist Church in Lytham where it rehearses every tuesday evening.
The band is an opportunity for all brass, woodwind or percussion players to rehearse and perform all kinds of concert band music.
The band
comprises over 30 players ranging in age from teenagers to those who have had a
lifetime’s experience playing all sorts of music from classical to big band to
jazz. Our players travel from
around the North West of England from as far afield as Garstang and Leyland.
Paul Cooper, the band’s Musical Director, has been in post
since 2003.
